  • Independent: A and B are statistically independent if
    • P(A∩B) = P(A) x P(B)
  • Mutually exclusive: A and B are mutually exclusive if
    • P(A∩B) = 0
  • P(A): the probability of A happening
  • P(A'): the probability of A not happening
  • P(A∩B): the probability of A and B happening
  • P(AUB): the probability of only A happening, or only B happening, or both A and B happening
  • P(A|B): the probability of A happening given that we know B has already happened
